Exposition – Rumilly, ville ou campagne ? D’un monde à l’autre : la paysannerie entre ruralité et modernité (1945 – 1975)

In the 1960s, France saw the disappearance of the peasantry as a way of life, leaving in the countryside farmers who had become producers obeying the rules of the market and technology.

Henry Tracol's photographs, taken in Albania from the 1950s to the 1970s, depict this transition between two worlds, between the post-war years and the quasi-industrial era of large-scale production. He was a conscious witness to a world in flux.

Long considered the "breadbasket" of Savoy, one of the most fertile lands where cereal, dairy and tobacco productions have sustained generations, the Rumilly region is no exception and has undergone major changes in recent decades.

From farmer to peasant to agriculturalist, what place is given to the rural world today? Is Rumilly a town or the countryside?

The exhibition revisits seasonal work and its tools, which have become museum pieces, the particularities of local cultures, family transmission, the place of women in the rural world, but also training, agricultural competitions and other fairs, the modernization of know-how and techniques, rural festivals…

What is it like to be a farmer in the Albanian region today? What crops are grown? What difficulties do they face, and what joys do they experience?

Through a collection of testimonies, the exhibition presents portraits and life stories of farmers who have been established or are newly settled in the area.

A cultural program suitable for everyone, including conferences, mini-workshops, workshops, guided tours… awaits you throughout the year.
